Overseas Passenger Terminal Berthing Infrastructure Project (OPT BIP) overview

Port Authority of NSW is working to protect and future-proof the berth facilities for modern-day cruise ships at the Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) in Circular Quay.

The OPT BIP will facilitate safe, efficient and reliable vessel berthing at the Overseas Passenger Terminal that can accommodate the requirements of the current and future cruise vessel fleet that will visit the terminal.

The project will include berth deepening to remove localised high spots at the seabed within the berth box and installation of a scour protection system to mitigate the effects of vessel induced scour which can lead to damage at the base of wharf structures. 8t rock bags will be placed along the toe of the wharf to provide the scour protection.

Timing

Work has started on site at the OPT  from May 2026 . We expect work to be complete late-2026.
