Meet our Executive

The Executive is responsible for the day-to-day management of operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and sustainable movement of vessels across our ports. Acting under the authority of the Board of Directors, they oversee strategic initiatives, policy implementation and service delivery, driving excellence in port operations, maritime safety and environmental stewardship.

John McKenna

Chief Executive Officer

John joined Sydney Ports Corporation (now Port Authority of New South Wales) in September 2011 leading the cruise division, including the operations at the White Bay Cruise Terminal and Overseas Passenger Terminal.  In April 2020, John became the Chief Customer and Commercial Officer. In this role he oversaw the development, growth and future direction of the commercial and customer divisions, driving new commercial projects across services, facilities, property, infrastructure and cruise. 

Prior to joining Port Authority John worked with the Virgin Airlines group where he held positions of Manager of International Operations and Operations Manager of Guest Services. 

John has worked in airports throughout the world such as London, Los Angeles, Abu Dhabi and Nadi, Fiji.

Chief Operating Officer

As Chief Operating Officer, John leads and oversees the management of maritime operations to deliver quality services to our customers and stakeholders, while focusing on improvements to the delivery of consistent operational excellence across Port Authority’s locations.

Prior to joining Port Authority, John held senior executive and regulatory roles within the maritime industry, with his most recent role being General Manager Operations at Pilbara Ports Authority. John has spent his entire career in the shipping and ports industry, including a 15-year sea going career and holds formal qualifications in executive management, investigations, safety, and maritime security.

Chief Financial Officer

Kristie joined Port Authority in November 2020 as General Manager, Corporate Planning & Reporting and Chief Audit Executive. In October 2022 Kristie was Acting Chief Financial Officer and was appointed Chief Financial Officer in February 2023.

Kristie leads the finance division and has responsibility for Financial Accounting & Reporting, Financial Planning & Analysis, Procurement, Financial Transactions, Internal Audit, Transformation, Insurance, Treasury Management and Company Secretariat.

With over 28 years of financial experience, Kristie has held several senior leadership roles in energy, utilities, advisory and technology industries within Australia prior to joining Port Authority.

Garry Voutos

Chief Information Officer

Garry joined Sydney Ports Corporation in January 2012 as General Manager, Information Technology and in August 2014 became Chief Information Officer of the newly established Port Authority of New South Wales.

In his role, Garry is responsible for leading IT strategy and operations across all Port Authority of NSW businesses.

Prior to joining Sydney Ports, Garry held several senior IT leadership roles across Australia and Asia in diverse industries such as consumer electronics, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), manufacturing, retail and insurance. In these roles Garry has delivered complex change programs involving business model reviews, process re-engineering and systems implementations including large enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, integrated supply chain systems, integration of acquisitions, warehouse management systems and online retail.

Garry has experience and success in Six Sigma, Prince2, SCOR, ITIL and SFIA. He is passionate about partnering with the business to deliver value and change.

Amy Beaumont

Group Executive, People, Environment and Legal

Amy joined Sydney Ports Corporation (now Port Authority of New South Wales) in March 2014 where she had responsibility for the provision of legal advice to the Sydney operations. 

In 2019, Amy was appointed Port Authority’s General Counsel with responsibility for legal advice across the organisation as well as sustainability planning, environmental management and town planning. In 2020, her responsibilities extended to responsibilities for the People and Culture and Work, Health and Safety.

Prior to joining Sydney Ports Corporation, Amy held senior legal roles within Maersk’s head legal office in Copenhagen and in Sydney’s private practice with HWL Ebsworth Lawyers and its predecessor Ebsworth & Ebsworth Lawyers in their transportation group.

James Abbott

Group Executive, Strategy, Corporate and Public Affairs

As Group Executive, Strategy, Corporate and Public Affairs, James is responsible for leading strategy, government relations, media, communications and the community engagement functions for Port Authority of NSW.

James has more than 20 years’ corporate affairs experience including working at the highest levels in consulting, corporate and government roles with a strong focus on the broader infrastructure and property sectors. James previously held the position of Chief of Corporate Affairs at the Australian Banking Association (ABA), executive positions with the NSW Government as well as senior roles at Lendlease, Weber Shandwick, Royce Communications and successfully led his own consultancy.

Acting Group Executive, Infrastructure, Assets and Development
Acting Chief Risk Officer 

Cath was appointed Acting Group Executive of Infrastructure, Assets and Development & Acting Chief Risk Officer in June 2025. In her role, Cath oversees all the Port Authority long-term planning, projects, development, assets and infrastructure, and oversees Port Authority’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework and Risk Management function.

Cath joined Port Authority of New South Wales in August 2016 as a Project Manager. In 2019, Cath became General Manager, Projects, managing delivery of the entire capital program across all ports.  

Cath has specialised in port and maritime infrastructure development for private and public industry for over 25 years, completing large scale projects in major ports on the east coast of Australia.  
 

Rob Rybanic

Acting Chief Customer and Commercial Officer

Rob was appointed Acting Chief Customer and Commercial Officer in January 2025.

Rob joined Port Authority of New South Wales in January 2015 where he started out leading the security department and shortly grew to managing the cruise operations department, which included terminal operations and cruise development. In September 2021, Rob was seconded to lead the Property and Commercial department and in May 2022 was appointed General Manager Customer Service Deliver which was responsible for the Property, Commercial, and Customer Service portfolios for the Port Authority. In this role he drives the development and growth of the commercial, property and customer segments.  

Prior to joining Port Authority Rob worked in the Aviation industry for 15 years ranging from Operations Manager at Virgin Australia, to Head of Passenger and Terminals Services for Qatar Airways (QAS) in Doha Qatar. He has vast experience in domestic and international operations and leading large teams up to 1200 employees.
