Following the community consultation held in 2022, the Eden community are invited to review the Modification Report supporting the proposal to modify the Eden Breakwater Wharf Extension to allow larger cruise ships to visit in the future.
Port Authority’s Head of Regional Ports Peter Ernst said with more people taking up the opportunity to visit regional destinations, the proposed modifications are about making sure Eden is ready to welcome more cruise passengers in the future.
“Port Authority of NSW has been investing in infrastructure that supports Eden to capitalise on the growing cruise tourism market which in 2022/23 saw over 50,000 passengers visit the region injecting over $13.7 million into the local economy,” said Mr Ernst.
“The proposed modifications to the Eden Breakwater Wharf Extension will also provide the opportunity for more than the current cap of 60 cruise ships in each year, and potentially overnight berthing - increasing the opportunity for visitors to explore and experience the beautiful Sapphire Coast and beyond.
“The proposal will also remove the 100m length limit on other vessel types to call at the berth including naval vessels, optimising the use of this world class facility.
Mr Ernst added the Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) is facilitating the public exhibition that is commencing on 27 September 2023 until 24 October 2023.
“Importantly, all public submissions need to be lodged with DPE during the exhibition period,” said Mr Ernst.
“Community consultation is a key part of this public exhibition, and we are inviting the Eden community and interested groups to share their views and provide a submission to DPE.
“Eden locals can also visit our award-winning Eden Welcome Centre where they will be able to view a physical copy of the detailed Modification Report for the duration of the public exhibition.”
