A first of its kind in Australia, Port Authority's Port Noise Policy and Protocol for Sydney's Glebe Island and White Bay will manage port noise levels for the benefit of the local community while balancing the needs of port users and the working port.

The Port Noise Policy includes:

Effectively managing community noise exposure and noise levels is key to the successful operation of the port of Glebe Island and White Bay. The final policy was informed by public consultation and, the matters raised during consultation including the Port Authority’s response and changes made as a result of that feedback is documented in a Response to Submissions Report.

The results of noise monitoring of the Port will be published on Port Authority’s website in February 2021. Port Authority will continue to monitor, gauge and evaluate noise from commercial ships at Glebe Island and White Bay with regular reviews.

Port Authority would like to thank everyone who made a submission and looks forward to continuing to work with the community and port users in managing noise proactively, consistently and fairly across port operations in Glebe Island and White Bay.
