Port Authority to lead multi-agency training exercise in Port Kembla

Port Authority of NSW will lead its annual multi-agency training exercise named ‘Ramping Up’ on Friday 7 June in Port Kembla together with State emergency responders and port operators, testing its capabilities and emergency response protocols.

Harbour Master Port Kembla & South Coast Sharad Bhasin said the exercise will simulate a fire on board a car carrier vessel berthed alongside the AAT Terminal in the operational area of the Port Kembla facility.

“Port Authority conducts annual training exercises across our major ports to methodically test and hone our emergency response measures, making sure we are ready to protect people and the marine environment in the event of an emergency in port waters,” said Mr Bhasin.

“While there will be lots of action around Port Kembla tomorrow, there’s no need for alarm as we are training to ensure we are prepared and ready to respond.

“NSW Ports will play an integral role in this exercise, along with NSW Police, Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance, Environment Protection Authority, AAT, Maritime, Svitzer, to name a few who will all take part.

“Wollongong City Council as well as other stakeholders will also be at the exercise as observers, watching the full-scale staged demonstration as it unfolds.”

The exercise will commence at approximately 8.30am and is expected to conclude by 1.00pm.

Regular public access areas within the Port Kembla precinct will not be affected and remain open during the exercise.
