Port Authority of New South Wales was named a finalist in Australia’s biggest sustainability awards, the prestigious National Banksia Sustainability Awards, held in Melbourne in March.
Port Authority of NSW’s CEO Philip Holliday said he was thrilled that Port Authority was recognised as one of Australia’s brightest sustainability leaders.
“As a finalist we were one of just five businesses in the running, selected from hundreds of competing organisations, for what is considered Australia’s most prestigious and longest running sustainability award,” Mr Holliday said.
“As a relatively small organisation filled with passionate people, as a state-owned corporation and as members of the maritime community, we are just so proud of this recognition. It is not lost on me how far we have come to be a finalist for such acclaim within a few short years.
“I am incredibly proud of the journey Port Authority is on and that we are leading change well beyond our own business.
“I want to congratulate our remarkable Sustainability Team, who have been working tirelessly since 2019 to create positive change, embed sustainability into every business practice and achieve sustainable outcomes across all areas in which Port Authority operates.
“This is truly a business wide effort, and our successes would not be possible without the contributions and commitments of all staff to our sustainability and net zero journey. This work is paving the way for a brighter tomorrow.
“Congratulations to all finalists and to the outright winner of the Large Business Sustainable Leadership Award, Woolworths. We are honoured to be in your company!”
Sponsored by EY, the Large Business Sustainable Leadership Award recognises outstanding achievements that work towards Sustainable Development Goal targets by integrating sustainability principles and practices across business activities.
Operating in all six commercial ports across NSW, Port Authority is uniquely placed to drive positive change in the maritime and shipping sector of NSW.
The finalist placing follows October 2022’s win at the Banksia Foundation’s 2022 NSW Sustainability Awards, in the category of Large Business Transformation.
Port Authority of NSW thanks the NSW Government’s Sustainability Advantage program for their support in their journey towards sustainability and congratulates all the winners and finalists in the 2023 National Banksia Sustainability Awards for their incredible work.
